Another Flag Story

Sorry to post another Confederate flag story, but they are just too good to pass up on. Today we travel to Leesburg, Virginia where the city council decided to remove all civic organization signs from public property rather than allow the Sons of Confederate Veterans to place their own sign which of course comes adorned with an image of the flag. Apparently, the inclusion of images on such signs violates a local ordnance, though this is the first time it was utilized. Of course the SCV is all up in arms. Here is what one spokesman had to say:

“It’s very pitiful that they would take down everybody’s logo to shield the people of Leesburg,” said Bragdon Bowling Jr., director of public relations for the Sons of the Confederate Veterans international headquarters. “Are they from Virginia or New York? The Confederacy unfortunately happens to be a part of their history. [This] makes them look like a bunch of cultural Marxists.”

Here we have another example of the standard formula or argument: First, reduce southern history to four years of Confederate history, mix in a naieve and uninformed distinction between North and South, and finally add a dash of insult utilizing terminology that fails to pick out anything of interest. Let simmer for 30 minutes and pray that someone will find it informative. Unfortunately, many will.
