For That Special Someone

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I am willing to bet that many of my readers have yet to think about what to do for that special person in their life.  This year how about skipping the old flowers and dinner routine and go for something that will showcase your heritage.  Let me suggest heading over to Proud Rebel: Confederate Merchandise for the perfect gift. If your love life is suffering Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to reignite it. Perhaps what you and your partner need is some inspiration from your favorite Confederate hero.  These bed sheets are just what Doctor Ruth ordered.  Now you can imagine yourself in bed not just with your partner, but with Lee, Jackson, Stuart and the rest of the boys.  Sheets come in Twin, Queen, and King  sizes.  For  those of you who would like to showcase your neo-Confederate princess for all the world to see how about a bathing suit?  You can also purchase an even skimpier suit, but given that Civil War Memory is a family site I decided against showing it.  For those of you looking for a more traditional gift may I suggest a choker.   You can also purchase one with spikes.  Buy two and you can put one on your dog.  Obviously you don’t need a silly holiday to do something special for the person you care about the most.  And in the end isn’t Valentine’s Day just the result of greedy northern businesses like Hallmark?

Hi Will, — Thanks for taking the time to write. I am not sure why you are so overly sensitive to some of the comments. As for me I am not outraged by these items, I just find it somewhat strange that there isn’t more of an outcry from Southern Heritage folks who implore us to respect the flag that was carried into battle. Sorry, I just don’t see how wearing the Confederate battle flag on my ass reflects such a concern.

I think if you browse other posts you will find serious discourse. As for your claim of sectional bigotry, well, you couldn’t be more off target. The comments above were written by people who live all over the country.

    Lighten Up.

While I agree that the referenced items are perhaps in bad taste, I find your post and the responses equally Tasteless.
    1. Underlying all of this thread is a smug sense of perceived intellectual superiority, which reduced to its common denominator is simple snobbery.
    2. There is an element of sectional
bigotry present. All of the derided items are perforce related to the CSA; “Bobbie Lee bobblehead”, “Traveller Beanie Baby” …ad nauseum. I did not find similar reference to “The Butcher Butler Guide to Municipal Administration”, Little Phil’s “A Southern Ramble,..Reminiscences of a stroll thru Georgia.” or “Chivington’s Amended Indian Policy”. Of course the above referenced publications do not exist, but the point sees clear…The Victor can and does belittle the looser, but the loser can not; will not; shall not make slurring reference to the victor.
    3. Why are you not equally incensed that the “Glorious Banner” is to be seen draped around the near naked shoulders of biker chicks at Sturgis and elsewhere, and has been used as a theme on everything from beach towels to children’s erasers.
OH.. I See,… the winner can and will flaunt his banner however, whenever, and wherever he chooses…that is his right. He Won!
    4. I could belabor the point still further but the nut of the matter is this:
I arrived seeking serious and literate discussion and discourse on The War of the Rebellion but found a group of pretentious and condescending children who do not comprehend that Bad Taste is simply bad taste, not an affront to national dignity. Justice William Douglas never once read an erotic novel or sat through the screening of an erotic movie when such were presented to the Supreme Court. He simply did not care for such things. HE did however without fail voted against repression because Freedom of Choice was and is implicit in the American Social Contract. GROW UP!

I should have posted a link to a picture of that fabulous Confederate heritage product to which I referred…

Truly, something that every Confederate veteran would have appreciated as an item of remembrance of the hardships he faced in the field.

But wait, that’s not all… where’s a picture of the Dixie Cups Bra???

Thanks Ken, but that won’t be necessary. I am definitely going to comment on your point in the near future. “cyber-deer blind”: now that is an absolute classic.

Josh, — You need to get them when they are young.

    Kevin,

Awesome post. I was actually in the process of writing a similiar post. I was going to list the top 101 Confederate flag products. Honestly, I was having a difficult time narrowing the list down! My personal favorite is the Confederate flag crib set. You are never too young to “honor” your heritage.

Hey Ken, — You completely stole my thunder. I’ve been waiting all day for someone to attack me for over my apparent insensitivity to all things Confederate just so I could make that very point. LOL Hope all is well with you.

    Kevin:

Instead of getting agitated about the battle flag flying or not flying on some statehouse, maybe the heritage folks should concentrate on opposing this sort of thing, that is if they’re serious about honoring the men who fought under the flag:

What, no Bobbie Lee Bobblehead? No Traveller Beanie Baby? No James Longstreet voodoo doll? Hardly seems a comprehensive assortment.

  • Rob Wick Feb 8, 2007 @ 11:05

Wow, with those sheets and the bathing suit, you definitely could get a “Rebel Yell”! LOL!

    Best
    Rob
