At first I thought this was some kind of joke, but it turns out there is a real school with the name Dixie College. Better yet, it’s not in the south, but in Utah
of all places. Wait, it gets better. Their mascot is the "Rebel" and school officials are now concerned that this "nickname is [being] linked with the Confederate flag" by the general public. If they consider the mascot to be problematic what are they going to do about the name of the school itself? And if they do change the name of the school altogether, what are they going to do with all of their Dixie chicks? Where will they go?

I don’t know if you’ve seen it already, but there’s a very interesting Wikipedia entry on Dixie in Utah. Apparently Brigham Young had cotton-planter dreams!

Having dated a girl from “Dixie” Utah, I think THOSE Dixie chicks will be just fine. They also have a peculiar way of speaking, accent if you will, that is most endearing. You would like Dixie college and the folks down there.
Aside: Were there Confederate Mormons? The historical timeline, at least, would seem to allow for it. – TL

“Dixie” is the actual name used for that part of southern Utah, so “Dixie High School” is an appropriate name.

If their petition is approved, the school would be called the University of Utah-St. George. I’m sure this issue wouldn’t have come up were they not seeking to be absorbed by the Univ. of Utah.
