Wonderful speech, Kevin. You pose some excellent questions. Wish I could have been there.

Scotty, -- Thanks so much for the kind words. You hit the nail on the head in emphasizing the importance of multiple perspectives and their importance in fully identifying what is important to remember.

Levin-

Although we talked about it in class, I just want to say again I agree with Greg's statement about questioning certain issues. This speech was great because it touched all aspects of the battle at Marye's Heights- the soldiers, the citizens, the slaves, everything relating to memory. By taking certain individuals and their personal stories from history and inserting them into your speech, you gave everyone reading and listening multiple point-of-views that are often key in teaching people about history. Very nice.

Framing the questions we should all ask in the context of how you teach your students is great. Students have to be taught to ask the questions, whether an answer is ever achieved or not. A friend of mine in college, attending on a debate scholarship, had this posted on his wall, "It is better to argue a question and never settle it than to settle a question, never arguing it."
