I recently finished Suzanne Lebsock's book, The Free Women of Petersburg, which also discusses the living conditions and "black laws" impacting the quite large free black population. It's the best book we have on Civil War Petersburg and I highly recommend it. You obviously fail to understand the purpose of a book review.
