April is “Civil War in Virginia Month”

Well, at least that is what Governor McDonnell announced at a recent conference sponsored by the Virginia Sesquicentennial Commission.  With April right around the corner, however, we have yet to see a proclamation outlining the scope of the commemoration.  Perhaps the governor’s advisers are studying a recent Harris Poll on how Americans identify with this history.  Whatever is announced, I trust it will be as thoughtful as this speech.

I called the Governor McDonnell’s office late Friday afternoon and the gentleman who answered the phone professed no knowledge one way or another whether such a proclamation would be forthcoming. He suggested I keep checking the website or sign up for e-mail notices to see when — and if — such a proclamation is made.

I thought about doing just that so thanks for taking the initiative. It will be very interesting to see if he comes through with a proclamation. This is not a good sign.
