Three Videos

Dave Chappelle's "Time Haters" Skit: "Because shooting a slave master is just funny...no matter what color your skin."

It never ceases to amaze me of the extent to which readers get emotionally worked up about the videos I post on this site.  Here are three videos that I’ve posted in the past.  All of them led to heated discussion in the comments section here as well as on other sites.

I understand that some of you find the content of these videos to be offensive.  My own response covers a great deal of ground both in terms of their entertainment quality as well as what they tell us about how Americans remember their past.  One of the reasons why I post them, however, is because they fit neatly into the overall theme of this site.  They raise a number of questions in my mind about the intersection of history and comedy.  Over the past five years I’ve posted all kinds of videos and documentaries on this site.  It is your choice to be offended or to assume from any one video some deep dark fact about my personality.  If you have problems with these videos or if you feel a need to vent your emotions than I suggest that you take up your concerns with their creators.  But please don’t operate under the illusion that I somehow necessarily care about how each of you feels about what you see.

"In this stunning and well-researched book, Kevin Levin catches the new waves of the study of memory, black soldiers, and the darker underside of the Civil War as well as anyone has... Levin is both superb scholar and public historian, showing us a piece of the real war that does now get into the books, as well as into site interpretation."

It’s painfully clear that these three videos tell us something very important about you and your views about history.

I’ll get back to you when I figure out what that is.

“. . .please don’t operate under the illusion that I somehow necessarily care about how each of you feels about what you see.”

Understood.
Still, I can’t help but let you know —— I am currently roflmfao!

I loved Rappaport’s DeNiro imitation it was spot on. it would be funny no matter what skit it was attached to, it worked quite well with Lincoln and it was really more a satire of HBO than of Lincoln.

Dave Chapelle for 3 years was the funniest man on the planet and I remember seeing that episode, Charlie Murphy is great too.
It’s sad that the pressure of the huge$50 million contract got to Chapelle and he has cut way back on his performing .

anybody who can’t laugh at those three clips has issues that can’t be solved here.
