I will see it on Fri., I happen to have travel plans that will take me by the site.

Now Kevin you know this is just another attempt by the imperialist Union to keep Southern (Confederate) Heritage from having voice. Nothing says, “I love the CSA” like a synthetic, made in China, Confederate Battle Flag.

    • Bryan Cheeseboro Apr 2, 2012 @ 7:58

And so funny that to buy such a flag you have to pay for it with United States (i.e. Union/Federal government) currency.

  • Pat Young Apr 1, 2012 @ 4:34

I see what the flaggers are angry about. One look at the photo of the museum and you can tell the Confederate flag has been relegated to a place of reliquary display.

These fellows are starting to look like a rent-a-(mini)-mob who protest because there isn’t anything else to do on a sunny day in Virginia.

    • Connie Chastain Apr 1, 2012 @ 5:01

Actually, rent-a-mobs are usually given free transportation to their destinations and back and free meals, and are paid in things like cigarettes, if not cash. Flaggers participate from personal conviction, and pay their own way in an economy where money is tight. Your criticism and ridicule of them is pretty lame. Is that the best you can do?

I have no doubt that you believe this. Do you have evidence for this claim or is it just another one of your standard defensive responses? Were the representatives of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, who took part as the color guard, also paid participants?

        • Connie Chastain Apr 1, 2012 @ 5:57

Do you have a reason for asking some of your commenters for evidence, but not others? LOL. Of course you do.

          • Kevin Levin Apr 1, 2012 @ 5:58

I will take this response as a signal that you do not have any evidence for your claim. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

According to an e-mail obtained by The Star-Ledger, CWA Local 1038 is preparing for the rally with boxed lunches, leaflets and ponchos because of the expected rain. The union is also offering to reimburse wages for anyone who takes a half-day off to participate in the rally.

“You must use your own time, either vacation or AL (administrative leave), and give the local a photocopy of your paystub. Please note that the payment for lost-time wages will be mailed to you; it will not be paid tomorrow,” the e-mail states.

              Published October 07, 2011

A protest organizer says he paid people to demonstrate with the Occupy Wall Street-offshoot rally held Thursday in Washington, D.C.

‘Occupy CPAC’ protesters paid $60 for the day

Protesters at Friday’s “Occupy CPAC” event, organized by AFL-CIO and the Occupy DC movement, told The Daily Caller that they were paid “sixty bucks a head” to protest outside the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C.

Yes, I would like more. How about something that relates directly to your claim about the motivations behind the folks who attended the opening of the MOC in Lexington?

              • Billy Bearden Apr 1, 2012 @ 7:54

After the Flagging, and having heard all the many things that Waite Rawls had to say for the month leading to Saturdays grand opening, I went over to the Mclean House and went inside. On a shelf just outside the surrender parlor were 2 color graphic displays.

One showed the route Lee took from Richmond to Appomattox, the other listed all Confederate surrenders after Appomattox up till November 65.

I spoke for some time with the NPS Ranger inside too.

Everything presented at the Mclean House contradicts everything that Rawls has been saying.

Perhaps Waite Rawls should have taken the NPS tour at the Mclean House before he wrote the MoC talking points in Appomattox. That or just listened to what the Flaggers have been telling him all along.

                • Kevin Levin Apr 1, 2012 @ 8:00

Well Billy, it’s good to know that you were in attendance and armed with “true history”. LMAO

That said, I tend to agree with you that the MOC’s emphasis on Appomattox as a place where reunification happened is a bit overblown. It is certainly the place where the war ended.

                  • Billy Bearden Apr 1, 2012 @ 14:48

                    Thanks Kevin my friend!

“Flaggers participate from personal conviction, and pay their own way in an economy where money is tight.”

That would explain Edgerton’s absence. In these hard economic times, it’s not easy to come up with his $20K speaking fee. Thanks for clarifying.

        • Kevin Levin Apr 1, 2012 @ 5:48

She says the most bizarre things. At the same time, however, it seems to be the only thing that feeds her own postings at her Facebook page and blog.

          • Connie Chastain Apr 2, 2012 @ 16:52

You want to document who paid the flaggers’ way to Appomattox, their motel bills (for the ones that had to stay overnight), their meals? If what I said (“Flaggers participate from personal conviction, and pay their own way in an economy where money is tight”) is so bizarre, you should be able to document how it is wrong or mistaken.

            • Kevin Levin Apr 2, 2012 @ 16:57

You made a claim about the motivation of the people who attended the opening ceremony and I asked for evidence. You have failed to provide any. I assume that they paid their own way, which I assume is the case with the flaggers. Why not just admit you have no evidence? That’s it, Connie. I suggest you post your other comments to your FB page. Once again, I’ve reached my limit with your nonsense.

      • Pat Young Apr 1, 2012 @ 8:02

If a group of Irish Americans were protesting outside a museum because their flag was not being honored, and a photo taken inside the museum showed at least two examples of that flag being displayed after first being conserved and contextualized, I’d wonder at the motivations of the protesters. The question I’d raise is “Do they really have a beef, or are they just desperate for attention for their bloodless heroism?”

        • Kevin Levin Apr 1, 2012 @ 8:06

Which is exactly the point of this post. On one side we have flags being preserved and used to teach the history of the Confederacy and on the other we have a group of folks waving synthetic flags that resemble the real thing. You decide who is doing more to educate and preserve.
