Bless you all. This is the most sane discussion I have yet encountered on the election. Many of my friends are gun-nuts, and they are beside themselves. Fools watched Fox News all year and simply could not believe the reality that walked through the door Tuesday night. Nate Silver called this election truthfully and accurately weeks in advance…nothing about the result surprised me…except the incessant whining from the right.
Bummer gets a chuckle from listening to both the right and the left. The country chuggs along one way or the other. We have made our own bed, so we might as well get a good nights rest. Four years from now, I hope to still be above ground and studying the past, in order to deal with the future.
Kevin – your wife is German? So is mine! Though we’ve never met, you seem like a mild-mannered gentleman. Now I know why. π

Glad to hear it, Paul. I’ve been thinking about putting together a support group of men with German wives. π

The main thing to do is moderate the comments. I’ve got a post up over on The Hil and the comments are really nauseating. A lot of comments are from people who don’t understand the Constitution because they think they can just do whatever they want. They don’t know their history because they think the US was created so everyone could do what they want. John Adams would school them quickly.

Kevin, we really need a LIKE button here for posts like Pat’s. I’m just having a wonderful day and I daresay you and Pat are doing the same along with 59 million other people, give or take a few hundred thousand here and there.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 11:19
I’ve thought about installing Disqus comments once again even thought I’ve had trouble in the past. The problem is that most plugins that add this kind of functionality to WordPress blogs have a slow load time. I will look into it again.
When i was a boy, it was unimaginable that a black man could be president or that a lesbian could represent a state in the Senate.
To any young people inclined to listen to guys my age who tell you about how great the U.S. was in the past and how much it has declined, just know this: You live in America in its greatest time.
God bless us please.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 9:46
I agree. I have no patience for folks who believe the United States is in decline or subscribe to some other apocalyptic view. You have to somehow believe that everyone who voted the other way really do wish the worst to happen or are somehow irrational. I’ve never believed that about people who hold different views from me. In the end, regardless of how bad you think it is this nation has been threw far worse.
No, but now that you mention it, Big Bird is a lot more personable than Mitt Romney.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 6:42
No disagreement there. I do hope Dick Lugar managed to crack a smile last night.
Dudley BokoskiNov 7, 2012 @ 2:26
I always wondered what a second Jimmy Carter term would look like.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 2:50
Whatever. Now if you will excuse me, I have to make sure everything around my house is secure for the northeaster that must be God’s punishment for re-electing a socialist/fascist/America-hating/undocumented foreigner to the White House. π
I’m one of those grouches who wouldn’t have been happy no matter what the result. I wanted to vote for someone who didn’t attend an Ivy League college, but that didn’t work out real well this time around. I’ll believe there is real change coming when the President elect is from Grambling or UCLA or the University of Iowa or we get a Supreme Court justice from Plattsburg State or Alcorn A&M. But for everyone who was happy with the result I hope they enjoy it the day and still feel good about the result four years down the road.

Where exactly is forward? π
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 2:51
You can start with the uninsured. π
Lyle SmithNov 7, 2012 @ 7:15
Not for the people who are going to have pay for it though. π Class warfare here we come.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 7:18
Well, let me know when the masses rise up. Here in Massachusetts all is quiet. π
Lyle SmithNov 7, 2012 @ 7:54
Give it some time, give it some time. In the meantime we all can just watch Europe.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 7:55
Watch it, Lyle. You don’t want to incur the wrath of my better half from Germany. π
Lyle SmithNov 7, 2012 @ 8:29
Hey, I love Germany and Germans. I’ve lived there. Interesting years ahead for them though.
Kevin LevinNov 7, 2012 @ 8:42
Heading over in December. I’ve never seen the country during the Christmas season – really looking forward to it.
It’s awesome. Maybe the best place to be for Christmas with the Christkindlmarkts and wintry weather. Drink lots of spiced up GlΓΌhwein.

Kevin,
One word…Gluwhein. Yum! Your welcome!
Billy BeardenNov 9, 2012 @ 18:07
Yes, they have already started for the uninsured with the insured. My son is a line cook at the local Olive Garden resturant. His once former 40+hour week job was hacked down to 25 hours week so Darden Corp will save $$ for ObamaCare mandates. He has since had to pick up a second job at WalMart to offset the losses.

I agree too.
This was the first time in my life that I wrote in somebody’s name for the presidency. It was kind of fun.
Anyway, I’m just glad the darn thing’s over. I’ve gotten weary of politics over the past few months.

It seems as if the company that runs Olive Garden has been looking to cut costs for some time: http://www.cnbc.com/id/49343911/Prepping_for_Obamacare_Chain_Cuts_Workers_Hours
