The Problem of Southern Thinking From a Southerner

No, I don’t believe that the views expressed in this video reflect the views of any one section of the country, but I do believe that “Mungo” gets at something interesting. He at least echoes many of the hysterical views expressed in the wake of the W&L Confederate flag controversy and other so-called heritage violations.

    I am reminded of the blowback Mr. Jimmy Carter received when he had the unmitigated gall to even mention that it was a tad upsetting to some folks that a black man had been elected president . . . anyone with a shred of southern in their background knew he was spot on, even if they denied it.

      I thought his opening thought about taking to hear a certain narrative of the Civil War and a politics built on fear of the outside was a good one. You can see it at work in Confederate heritage circles.
