Explore the History of Reconstruction in Washington, D.C.

If you are a history teacher looking for a summer professional development opportunity, I encourage you to consider Ford’s Theatre’s “The Seat of War and Peace,” which runs from July 23-28. This is a unique opportunity to study the history of Reconstruction in and around the Washington, D.C. area.

Last year I worked with teachers for two days, but this year I will be on staff for the entire workshop.

Among other things, we will tour Ford’s Theatre to discuss Lincoln’s assassination, the home of Frederick Douglass, the African-American Civil War Monument, as well as Arlington National Cemetery to explore the Freedmen’s Village at Arlington. I had a wonderful time last summer and am incredibly excited to be heading back again in July.

There are still, unfortunately, too few teacher workshops on Reconstruction so don’t miss this opportunity.
