Harriet Tubman led all the enslaved people to freedom.

Looks like to me that the Flaggers figure they will be winners in a Restored Confederacy. That is not a given.

What are they forgetting that they need to “restore” the beloved “Confederacy”? I’ll tell you… “STATES’ RIGHTS?”

    — Oh, Wait! They ALREADY have “States’ Rights.” In fact, they’d ALWAYS had “States’ Rights” from the country’s very inception. And they STILL had “States’ Rights” even as they ignited and launched their treasonous insurrection that they now attempt to refer to as the “War Between the States” or (most telling) the “War of Northern Aggression,” which the rest of the rest of the REAL WORLD– and HISTORY itself –refer to as the American “CIVIL WAR.”

    — No. Wait again. Because those entities that eventually joined the anti-American “Confederacy” in actuality had something they referred to at the time as “STATE” Rights… “STATES’ Rights” is actually a modernism.

OUCH! — This question is really hurting my brain!!! I’m having the most terrible time trying to figure this one out…. I mean, WHAT ELSE could the “Restored Confederacy” require to bring it back in line with its historical mission and ideology? After all, the original “Confederacy” was said to have formed and fought-&-died for “STATES’ RIGHTS,” right? BUT… since ALL of the states of the American union HAVE HAD, and CONTINUE TO HAVE, a “CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEE” to “State Rights” (or “States’ Rights”)… what on Earth could POSSIBLY have been the underlying motivating factor driving the the former slave-holding southern states to wage war against their own Country and countrymen? I wonder if any of us will ever be able to figure it out, because I’m sarcastically getting the sense that we may never know.

Is the leftmost pic on the middle row part of a work by the indefatigable Mort Kunstler, by any chance?

  • fundrums Nov 18, 2019 @ 3:56

I will give them this, they included pics of the cotton fields, just no one to work them.

In addition to The absence 4 million African Americans, the white “ladies” are missing their heads. Not a good thing when you’re wearing a cumbersome fire hazard of a dress.

Guess I’ll stick with the Abbyville institute blogs then…
They don’t pick and choose my posts when they don’t run with their narrative,
    As you do…
I try be be impartial, and just get the FACTS from both views..
I always “snapshot” my posts before I send them to you … Just cuz

    • Kevin Levin Nov 18, 2019 @ 3:51

The Abbeville Institute is the perfect place for you. Take care.

    • Jim Dick Nov 18, 2019 @ 10:33

The Abbeville Institute of cherry-picked information that distorts the past to meet the fantasies of its contributors and readers. Tell Phil Leigh I said the confederates were traitors and to have a nice day!

  • John R Parrish Nov 17, 2019 @ 15:45

    You’re no different than them,
Picking and choosing whichever “facts” fit your narrative… This “modernizing” of history only fuels racial tension.

    • Kevin Levin Nov 17, 2019 @ 16:20

How is this “modernizing” anything. I am simply pointing out that their idea of a Confederacy revival is lacking the one element that they claimed to have been fighting for. I suggest you find a different blog to visit.

    • Jimmy Dick Nov 17, 2019 @ 16:46

Produce your own facts then. We’re still waiting on the neo-confederates to produce them. They’ve been challenged to produce primary sources from 1860/61 explaining why secession occurred and they can’t seem to do that. Yet, everyone else can easily point out thousands of those primary sources where the people of that time period said secession was over slavery.

In the case of the post regarding the “vision” of a restored confederacy, it shows that the flaggers are pursuing a fantasy and not a historical reality. They have a white nationalist goal and it shows in everything they do along with their fantasies of how they wanted the past to have been.

      • Neil Hamilton Nov 17, 2019 @ 19:28

Fanatical hopes and a shared fantasy requires no facts.

It’s the “vision” that matters, not actual history.

  • Jerry McKenzie Nov 17, 2019 @ 14:34

Maybe they will use poor whites this time around? Maybe they already are!

  • John R Parrish Nov 17, 2019 @ 14:32

Didn’t know they had Facebook in the 1860s
    Keep pushing your narrative

    • Kevin Levin Nov 17, 2019 @ 15:15

I will indeed continue to point out the selective memory of groups like the Virginia Flaggers.

  • John R Parrish Nov 17, 2019 @ 14:12

I thought this was supposed to be a historical blog, and perhaps you were a impartial presenter of facts…
Now you’ve proven this is not the case…

    • Kevin Levin Nov 17, 2019 @ 14:13

It is. And I just pointed out a fundamental historical fact that is missing from this silly Facebook post. You are welcome.

  • Andy Hall Nov 17, 2019 @ 13:01

To be fair, there aren’t ANY African Americans this that vision of the “restored” Confederacy, so maybe they plan to relocate them all somewhere else, as Robert E. Lee suggested for postwar Virginia, or the odious Kirk Lyons advocated somewhat more recently.

    • Kevin Levin Nov 17, 2019 @ 13:39

I don’t know. This suggests that in the end their slaves weren’t as loyal as they once thought. 🙂

  • Billy Wetherington Nov 17, 2019 @ 9:40

Some “Southerners” are just as for lack of a better word, stupid now as they were back then.I won’t deny the possibility of the USA breaking up in the future. (Perhaps because of people like modern day wannabe Confederates Look at the evolution of Eastern Europe.) However, like so many ideas its bad and worse still it betrays the lack of a moral compass.

    • Mike Furlan Nov 17, 2019 @ 10:47

“…Stephenson rolls history a couple of decades into the future to depict a US completely unmoored from factual reality. Dodge’s grandniece Sophia travels through the midwestern states of “Ameristan”, where the rules of Leviticus are enforced to the letter and people who break them are stoned (stoning in this case meaning shooting: to Ameristanis “a gun is just a modern labour-saving device that makes it able to throw little rocks really fast”).” “Fall or Dodge in Hell”

      Yep,could happen.

  • R. Alex Raines Nov 17, 2019 @ 9:39
