Gotta have a sense of humor, thought I’ve seen everything but……..nice girls!

Ah yes, the Lost Cause alive and well in today’s music culture. Wonderful. I wonder where I can get some of those ridiculous platform heels? They seem historically accurate.
Logan SpanglerDec 21, 2008 @ 7:17
Geez, this might just be better than the singing fruit. These people must have a lot of time on their hands to say, “Hey! Lets make a rock music video with a band consisting of Confederate soldiers and dancing Union chicks!” I do enjoy the mixup of the factual memory and these videos that are totally ludacris haha
Gives new meaning to the term “Southern Rock” (I-AY!)!
The girls look like regects from Confederate Railroad’s “Trashy Women” video. (Yeah, interesting name for a band…http://www.confederaterailroad.net/…in case that is something you might want to venture into.)

Or a cheap attempt at Kid Rocks ‘Sweet home Alabama’ video.
I don’t know which was more distracting; the ratty ceiling tiles or the sexy faux lesbo action. Sadly, the musucianship was pretty garagesque and it takes more than Betty Page (Requisat en Pace) pumps and shopping mall corsets to turn trailer park gals into convincing vamps, but still…
nice interpretation of our nations troubled past and continued strides toward peace, justice, and understanding.
Happy hollydaze Kevin,
Mannie

Happy holidays to you too Mannie and congratulations on finishing your first semester.

I think it’s interesting that he took the name for the show from J.E.B. Stuart’s historic ball in the house which he happens to own. Also, according to the later site, he’s produced a documentary film on Civil War memory and also a Civil War-themed pornographic film (see guest book comments for this). The main “Landon House” site has links to a description of the former film…not sure about the later…
Kevin LevinDec 19, 2008 @ 13:54
A Civil War-themed pornographic film? Now that’s what I call revisionist. Thanks for the information.
John SchwarzDec 19, 2008 @ 13:28
Guys,
I found this information about the “Reality Show” by inputting the band’s name in a search engine:
The show is entitled “Sabers and Roses,” and is produced by the same vocalist in this video…interesting, eh? Both the band and the show seem to have detailed websites, for further browsing…

Im just being blunt honest here, I would advise those guys not to quit their day jobs. 🙂
John SchwarzDec 19, 2008 @ 12:10
He’s proposing a “Civil War Reality Show” -now that is interesting in terms of the content of this blog.
This will be an interesting 150th-anniversary commemoration (outstanding modern scholarship in the last fifty years, the surprising growth of reenactment as a pastime, popular portrayls in the various new media like a television series…what a mix)!!!
I love your blog, Kevin, so keep up the great work!!!

Sorry about that John, but I accidentally deleted your comment. This is why you see my ugly mug next to your comment. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Maybe the dancing girls are the selling point, I will admit they did catch me eye… im guilty 🙂
Charles LovejoyDec 19, 2008 @ 11:16
Kevin, Im having a hard time taking the people in this video serious. Its like a low-budget or no-budget Civil War ‘Avant-garde’ type video. 🙂
I’m just here to say I only made it 38 seconds into the song before I had to cut it off. And more importantly: the first part of that guitar riff sounds an awful lot like Led Zeppelin’s “Misty Mountain Hop.”
I can’t really agree that I am being “so sensitive”, as I am thinking the blog would be better served examining a higher standard of material culture. I hate to see such crassness presented as representation of “Civil War Memory”. Please don’t be offended yourself at my bluntness. You have a reputation of introducing stimulating posts and I would like to participate in more of that.
Kevin LevinDec 19, 2008 @ 10:16
John, — I appreciate your interest in my blog. Please keep in mind that from the beginning I’ve made it a point to explore and introduce a wide spectrum of forms of remembrance and memory. That you believe the video to be an example of “crassness” is interesting to me since someone else may think that very differently. Thank again.
You just keep puttin’ the worms on the hook and castin’ the line into the murky pond.
This fish is not going to bite on “Southploitation”.
Kevin LevinDec 19, 2008 @ 9:18
The “worms on the hook” are simply for the reader to consider – nothing more, nothing less. I’m sorry to see that you are so sensitive about a little music video.

Yeah, I know, but its got dancing girls in it.
Gee, look at me, now I am sucked in. It reminded me of the AC/DC song TNT.
I’m just here to say I only made it 38 seconds into the song before I had to cut it off. And more importantly: the first part of that guitar riff sounds an awful lot like Led Zeppelin’s “Misty Mountain Hop.”
Don’t get me wrong Tom, the band totally sucks.
It never would have crossed my mind that you thought otherwise Kevin.
