Those of you who have followed the antics of the Virginia Flaggers over the years will get a good laugh out of this one. It appears that participants wearing Confederate uniforms in the annual parade in Lexington, Virginia to honor Lee-Jackson Day were prevented from visiting the Lee Chapel on the campus of Washington & Lee University. This included a man portraying Robert E. Lee himself.
You can’t make this stuff up. It couldn’t happen to a nicer group of people.
I think the title of your post might more appropriately be “A Grown Man Playing Dress Up Barred from Lee Chapel.” π
I think the current term is COSPLAY, like the people who dress up as Spiderman or Sailor Moon at the comics conventions. same thing…
The Virginia Flaggers have a long history of setting up staged confrontations so that they can later they were victims. It’s what they do.
Which reminds me — last week was the fifth anniversary of one of them deliberately getting himself arrested at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and subsequently claiming to have been “assaulted” by law enforcement. He went one to raise a substantial amount of money to support “upcoming civil suits, which will address the issues of civil rights violations, both in the case of TriPp being denied the right to honor his ancestors/carry a flag on the property, as well as violations against TriPpβs young daughter during the ‘arrest.'” I wonder when that’s gonna happen.

Succinct, not too wordy, clean meaning, but somewhat unoriginal in the word choice. I can’t give it more than a 7 out of 10.
It’s rather ironic seeing how Robert E. Lee himself never desired to be buried in uniform or be surrounded by Confederate flags. His funeral guests allegedly did not wear grey uniforms either, respecting Lee’s wishes to not have his funeral become a military parade. I am certain that Lee still held pro Confederate and pro slavery views deep down, yet in the end he respected the fact that the South lost, something Lost Cause supporters haven’t seemed to grasp yet.
This group whined about the removal of replica battle flags from Lee Chapel a few years ago even though they were only placed there for the first time in the 1930s.
Typical Lost Causers π Itβs the same kind of reaction Confederate apologists are currently having to monuments being taken down, even though many of them were built many years after the war ended.
When I spoke in Lee Chapel last fall, the gates were closed to the public before and immediately after my speech. That has been standard procedure for awhile now, since people started doing things to statues. Nothing new about it this weekend.
The Flaggers are claiming that they were prevented from entering the chapel. I thought the gates were just around the area around the statue.
The gates are as you say. I believe that only people in uniform were barred from entering the building proper.
