Folks, I think it’s really going to happen this year. General Goodson is going to make it happen because “once this ride starts…there is no getting off of it.” Grab your favorite coffee mug and climb on board.

“Coffee is [the New Confederate Army’s] hot beverage of choice. I like mine strong, with a little cream and sugar.”
So apparently Goodson’s a supporter of hot beverage miscegenation, and the mongrelization of our traditional drinking values. Appalling.
We need to take up a collection:

Come on now, pass the hat, folks. He only needs $57930. Isn’t Google a wonderful thing?
OMG, I spit my tea at the screen. I don’t like coffee, so I guess I’m going to his CSA concentration camp. “If you shi* this flag…” So that’s where the flaggers are getting them from.
OK, that was tasteless, but in my defense, I’m in the middle of a drunken polar vortex in NC. And now, as a former Northerner, I now have to fear for my tea-drinking Yankee hide in the midst of this impending liberation by the NEW Confederate Army. All five of them.
Excuse me, I can’t type and keep my pinkie in the air…
Best line: 11 minutes in he holds up the CBF and says “If you sleep that flag. If you sh*t that flag” then you should join the New Confederate Army. Or maybe see a gastroenterologist.
Hilarious stuff. What if you did those things *on* the CBF? Does that make you an even better “new confederate?” By the way, I drink water and Diet Coke. I suppose I can’t be a confederate then. [Whew! Dodged another one.]
“It’s not that easy to get rid of the New Confederate Army”-“No one expects the Spanish Inquisition.”
Ohmygosh! They’re being attacked by THE EMPIRE!!!!

Lordy, Lordy, what is they going to do?
I absolutely love the beginning of the video, where Goodson apologizes for the poor lighting. How does he expect to organize an army when he can’t even figure out the lighting for his videos? The guy is incredibly entertaining.
Well, when your army is imaginary it doesn’t take much to organize it. 🙂
He ain’t one of us. Embarrassing, embarrassing.
Who gets to define it and why? Isn’t it true that some in the Virginia Flaggers find you to be an embarrassment?
BTW, here is Richard Williams’s post. It’s pretty good, though he seems to think I am somehow offended by the reference to the WBTS. I was definitely surprised to see it referenced in the description for the journal Civil War History. The post simply reflected that it’s been some time since I’ve come across the reference in a university press book. That’s all.
Well, if Betty means that he isn’t part of the UDC than she is correct for obvious reasons. 😀
Jokes aside, I get what she’s saying. Not all Southerners who care about their heritage are like this guy, and I agree with her.
You’re right, Kevin, no one gets to truly define what is and is not “Confederate.” However, I think the majority of Southerners follow Lee’s advice, “don’t bring up your sons to detest the United States Government. Recollect that we form one country now. Abandon all these local animosities, and make your sons Americans.”
I find this sentiment expressed by the words or actions of various Confederate heavyweights (ie, E.P. Alexander, N.B. Forrest, Billy Mahone … the list goes on). Being loyal Americans, letting go of anger and not hating the North is what they advised. The guy in the video is definitely not “one of us” by their standard.
Jokes aside, I get what she’s saying. Not all Southerners who care about their heritage are like this guy, and I agree with her.
No disagreement if that is, in fact, what she means.
However, I think the majority of Southerners follow Lee’s advice, “don’t bring up your sons to detest the United States Government.
The majority of [white] Southerners probably don’t give any of this much thought.
If you mean that the majority of white southerners don’t give a hoot about the Civil War or what Lee said, you’re right. But I think they’re following his advice in spirit and concept, since most don’t hate the USA (quite the opposite, Southern states are very patriotic).
Adding “white” is a little bit antagonistic, though. My omission of race was entirely innocent — I didn’t specify “white” Southerners because I was talking about Confederates and context made their ethnicity obvious. “Confederate heritage” always means ‘white’ to me, since I don’t believe in Black Confederates (or the Tooth Fairy, who is much more plausible).
Kevin, that is exactly what I meant. This man does not think like the majority of southerners.Try reading the Old Virginia Blog regularly and you will understand us better. We are very much like that of which he writes. As for defining the general, he probably should be shown compassion, for obvious reasons. I am sure that I am regarded as much worse than an embarrassment by the flaggers and it bothers me not at all.
I do read and enjoy Richard’s blog, though we have different perspectives on most issues. I also very enjoy Robert Moore’s Cenantua’s Blog, which offers a different perspective on Virginia’s history and heritage. I’ve learned that no one speaks for the South or any region for that matter. I have trouble with the idea of “us” in this context.
As for defining the general, he probably should be shown compassion, for obvious reasons.
On that point I agree 100%. 🙂
I thought the fruitcakes were all gone after Christmas
Hardcore confederates? A brand new, new confederate army? I really hope the FBI or ATF is making sure this guy is not allowed to purchase or obtain any weapons. This is the perfect example of why we need laws about not letting the mentally ill possess weapons.
I really want to hear just what he considers a hardcore confederate to be. Based on this video I think he left out racist, bigoted, uneducated, and intolerant. Furthermore what are his plans for creating a government once he “liberates” the South? Is he going to recreate the CSA constitution? If so, does that mean all the black people in the South will become slaves? He would have to reinstate slavery since that is specifically the heart and soul of that constitution. If not, then he would not be a living, breathing hardcore confederate such as those who rebelled against the lawful government of the United States of America.
Drinking coffee to liberate the South, another person a few cheerios short of a bowl.
