Upcoming Talks (March 2014)

Just a quick reminder that I will be speaking in the following places this month. On March 15 I will be speaking, along with Stephen Engel, Gordon Rhea, Eric Wittenberg, Brian S. Wills, at Longwood University’s annual Civil War seminar. Looking forward to seeing friends in Virginia.

For those of you in the Providence area I will be speaking at the Rhode Island Civil War Round Table on March 19 on the subject of the myth of the black Confederate soldier. Having just finished an essay on the Crater for an edited collection on the Petersburg Campaign and a couple of book reviews I can now once again devote all of my time to finishing this book, which I plan to do by the end of the summer.

This past week I accepted two speaking invitations. This first was from the Gettysburg Foundation and Gettysburg National Military Park, which will hold its annual Sacred Trust Talks in early July. I will speak at 3:30pm at the visitor center on July 5. I also accepted an invitation from Eric Jacobson and the Battle of Franklin Trust to speak on the subject of Civil War memory at the Fleming Center at Carnton on October 11. In August I visited Franklin for the first time and took a tour with Eric. One of the best tours I’ve ever experienced.  I am thrilled about having the opportunity to return and give a talk.

Click here for a calendar of upcoming talks. Hope to meet some of you in person before the year is out.

So glad you’re coming to Franklin in October. That one’s on my list this year. My 3X great-grandfather was at Franklin in the 63rd Indiana Infantry.

      Hi Mike,

Hope you can make it. Coming close to the end of the sesquicentennial is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the scope of the past few years.
