There She Is, Miss RebelFest 2015

Congratulations to Taneka Lewis, who has been crowned Miss RebelFest 2015. Beyond this I don’t really know what else to say.

Miss RebelFestPerhaps I should just let the organizers speak for themselves:

On behalf of the Carolina Rebels Motorcycle Club – Sumter Chapter, we would like to congratulate the newly crowned Miss Rebelfest 2015, Taneka Lewis. Taneka was chosen Miss Rebelfest by the attendees of this year’s event. We look forward to having her as Miss Rebelfest for the upcoming year. Her strong spirit, along with her contagious personality, not to mention, she’s easy on the eyes, should make for a fun and exciting year! In a society that has labeled the confederate flag and the flag’s supporters a symbol of racism and divide; we feel we must also address what will eventually be ask sooner or later: Why is a organization that is called the Carolina Rebels which supports the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern heritage, have an African American woman as their representative? Well, that is easy. Ms. Lewis was not denied nor was she chosen on her skin color. She was chosen by the many in attendance simply because she best resonated with them. She won with 80 percent of the votes. We are very excited and proud to introduce you to our new reigning Miss Rebelfest 2015, Taneka Lewis!

Taneka’s coronation will…oh why bother.

Bikers vote for one thing and one thing only, the hottest female on stage in the smallest of bikinis, in this case one that matches the club’s colors. She was no dummy in choosing her attire. I doubt that race had anything to do with their vote but the club official who composed the announcement obviously thought it important enough to put in the fact that she’s African-American and a perfect foil for another all-white biker club. I wish her luck on this stage and every stripper pole he hangs from in her career.

I’ve seen some sad posts in my day, but these take cake. Not one person congratulated Ms Lewis. She is a fantastic person, beautiful, talented, and intelligent. No cruel joke, but lots of modeling opportunities. We are proud to have had her for Miss Rebelfest.

Haters gonna hate. My guess is that none of these commenters have ever met a Carolina Rebel. And yet, you judge us by the patch we wear. Not by our actions. The charities we support, our community that we help, the children’s lives we have touched, all without expectations of anything, but a desire to help.

So when you spew your hatred without knowing squat, you display your ignorence. Yes, our patch has the CBF on it. A symbol of southeren heritage and a fight against a tyrannical government.

Show the tyranny in the primary sources or else continue to spew your lies, Root.

The only Confederate Battle Flag in a public place that I would look at.

Voter fraud in NC? 80% is unthinkable in a group like that. She’s attractive enough. All others divided 20%? I hope they haven’t made her the object of a cruel joke or farce.

  • Whatever in a world where I have seen war up close ,vicious race attacks black on Latin the opposite black on Asian.Silliness does not bother me.Tribal violence Rawanda and the 30 foot peace walls in Belfast. Flaggers are a minor thing. Fact is there are a few black people who identify with flag a whole lot more that could care less.

So the whole issue is so unimportant that you had to comment here about it?

  • Andy Hall Jul 29, 2015 @ 6:49

Ms. Lewis’ ethnic background is of so little importance to the Carolina Rebels that they issued a press release explaining how unimportant to them it was.

Perhaps they’re all getting back the results of their Ancestry DNA and finding that their roots are not as lily white as expected. Apparently this is getting to be a fairly shocking outcome for a relatively high number of old southern families who thought themselves pure and now are finding out that GGGG grandmother or grandfather were not exactly keeping it between the marital sheets. Oh, my…

    She gets my vote.

A descendent of slaves, wrapped in the CBF, and elected as a sex object for the next year. So much wrong with this.

Maybe they voted for this young lady for the same reason neo-confedeerates are always telling me I voted for Obama – white guilt.

  • Yulanda Burgess Jul 29, 2015 @ 5:30

So sad. I am totally speechless.

Meanwhile, as the CBF’s use continues to slide into parody and comic relief. I suppose they’re “honoring the soldiers” in that context.

Hey, because nothing says someone’s heritage like a battleflag bikini? There is another young black woman who shows up from time to time with the battleflag claiming that slavery was a choice: the choice being that you could either be a slave or you could kill yourself if you didn’t like it. Her wish is to be buried wrapped in the flag. There are always going to be people who seemingly don’t understand the issues, who are more concerned with promoting themselves (which may be the case with Miss Rebelfest), and political ideologues.

Yes, her name is Karen Cooper. She is a Virginia Flagger.

      • Marian Latimer Jul 29, 2015 @ 23:10

The dear flaggers are getting plenty of mention in promos for “The Hunt” on CNN. Seems John Walsh is looking for the young lady who absconded with her daughter and her flagger boyfriend and come Sunday, I expect their FB page is going to be seeing its fair share of vitriol. Oh, dear…
